Mental Health First Aid -MHFA is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. This session is 7.5 hours and will start at 8:30 am and ends at 5 pm with breaks and lunch.
Rural -Rural communities face significant challenges in accessing mental health care. Mental Health First Aid for Rural Communities enables adults to acknowledge and begin addressing those disparities, as well as identify the many unique strengths that come from living in a community of supportive neighbors, friends, and families. This session is 6.5 hours and will start at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30 pm with breaks and lunch.
Public Safety- Public safety professionals encounter high levels of stress, trauma and critical incidents, which can take a toll on mental health. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Public Safety gives personnel the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and help connect them to the appropriate care. This training promotes open dialogue, reduces stigma and encourages public safety professionals to seek support when needed. This session is 6.5 hours and will start at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30 pm with breaks and lunch.
Youth- Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
